Me with saxophonist supreme David Evans
I
started playing the saxophone in the 5th grade. It was difficult: It
still is difficult. But as in life, many of the most difficult things
end up being the most rewarding. I receieved a scholarship to North
Texas State University in 1982 and studied there for 5 years until I
graduated in 1987 with a BA in Music Education. I moved to the West
Coast and left music for computers. In early 2002 I started playing
again and after searching for a new mouthpiece, tried to make one for
myself. It took years of reading and learning and hundreds of
mouthpieces later before I felt I had a good start. I started making
mouthpieces commercially around 2004 using other manufacturers blanks
from plastic and hard rubber. In 2010, I decided to start learning
machining techniques that would allow me to make my own designs. This
year I finally have what I feel are some truly great pieces. I
hope you will try them and like them as much as I do.
