Springer Mouthpieces FrequentlyAskedQuestions
"Is shipping extra?"
No. Free shipping via USPS Priority mail is included in the price. Shipping for orders outside the Continental US is $10 extra.
"Is the ligature included?"
No.
I did a survey of my customer base back in 2008 and asked them if they
were using the stock ligature that I included and the majority said
"no" and the ligature provided no added value to the mouthpiece. In
order to keep my costs down and prevent delays in shipping I chose to
stop including the ligatures. With my new line of mouthpieces, I
incorporated the ligature topic into my design by making the
outer diameter the same for alto, tenor and baritone. So the
following chart shows the standard size ligatures you can buy and use
use with my pieces:
Soprano - standard soprano ligature size
Alto - standard alto ligature size
Tenor - standard alto ligature size
Baritone - standard alto ligature size
"What material do you use?"
I am making my new line out of Acetron. It is a composite material that
is FDA approved Delrin (Acetyl). Normally Delrin in white was FDA
approved and the black Delrin was not FDA approved until recently when
they invented Acetron. I chose this material as it combined the best
properties of Shore hardness, machinability, and asthetics for human
comfort in the mouth. My mouthpieces are machined from solid pieces of
this material and then hand faced and finished by me. By
machining the pieces myself I am able to adjust many parameters of the
design.
"How should I protect my mouthpiece?"
Included with your mouthpiece is a protective tube. When you are finished
playing your mouthpiece remove it from the neck, remove the reed from
it and rinse it out with cold water, then dry it off, place it in the tube, and
secure the lid. Many mouthpieces can be damaged by rolling around
inside your case.
Why should I buy your mouthpiece?
I
offer several things not found in todays modern mouthpieces. 1) they
are made in the USA - how many products have you bought recently that
actually support jobs here in America? 2) they are made by an actual
musician not a factory worker who has never played the saxophone. 3) I
offer more custom options than anyone else. 4) they are a great deal -
affordable, sound, consistent construction.
Why is there no refund offered?
These
are custom mouthpieces made at the time of order and crafted for a
specific person. They cannot be resold therefore no refunds are
offered. If you are completely disatisfied with your mouthpiece, there
is a chance that we can work out an alteration for a fee. Simply
contact me and we can discuss things.
I don't know what I want - Can you suggest something for me?
If
you really want to order without talking to me first, here are a
few suggestions that are quasi standards in the saxophone community:
Alto - (jazz) .080" (classical) .065" standard (long) facing
Tenor - (jazz) .105" (classical) .080" standard (long) facing
BUT - I recommend talking to me first to discuss reed strength, player experience, brand of saxophone, and desired sound, etc...
